A Monster Brides Romance

Bonded To The Boo Hag

Gatlin:
I’ve always protected my twin sister. But when something I can’t fight threatens her life, I’m reduced to relying on science and medicine to fight for us. I feel powerless as I watch her lose more ground to her illness every day. When the doctor pulls me aside to speak with me about end-of-life care, I lose it. Gemma has always believed in something more in this world, and in my desperation, I find it. Our world is filled with monsters; for a price, they will heal my sister.

I just have to give them what they ask for–– me.

Palmer:
Gatlin Rose’s present echoes my past. He barrels into our world seeking a cure for his sister, unaware of how he has jeopardized his own life just by seeking us out. I feel the overwhelming need to protect him before his wretchedness attracts the real monsters of our society. It is simple to heal his sister, but I want something in return. I invoke a right that Boo Hags last used centuries before even I was born: He must live his life, magically intertwined with mine for a year and a day.

It’s dangerous to give him access to my home, to allow him around my people, to give him the chance to invade my heart. It would be too easy to love this man. Knowing this, I still bind myself to this beautiful, brawny artist because I have hope—hope that he may just be the key to unlocking a miracle of my own

I’ve got a problem, and it’s nothing a little magic can fix…

I’m Calla Storm, a senior at Westhaven College of Magic. My potion-making skills are legendary, but my spell work… is unremarkable. And that’s being kind.

I’m failing Curses 301 – again – and if I don’t pass this time, I’ll lose my degree and my only chance at opening my dream company.

Luckily my childhood best friend, Maddock Cane, is the best Curse Breaker on campus. Now if I can only focus on the magic he’s trying to teach me and not the whole deliciously dark, brooding, chiseled, thoughtful total package thing he has going on…

Yeah, I’ve got it bad. Unfortunately, to him, I’m just ‘Cal,’ the nerdy potions girl who begs him to be my guinea pig for every new tincture I dream up. Our tutoring sessions begin and I do my best to learn the magic.

But when our nighttime practices turn deadly, I risk losing more than a stupid degree. His very next breath depends on me getting it right.

Can I channel the magic I need to save him? Or will I doom the only man I’ve ever loved?

Vanity of Devils

Winner in the Polyromance Category for the 1st Annual Mamaw Namid Romance Awards 2024

It’s a crime stuck on repeat:

The penthouse suite at the ritziest hotel in a major southern city is rented out. Someone inevitably does a welfare check. Whoever the unlucky person is, the maid, the manager, or a loved one, finds the suite’s main room drenched in blood.

In horror, they report the crime to the human authorities, but the East Coast Council of Magic’s Enforcer’s local branch intercepts the call.

Upon investigation, no bones are found, no entrails, not even a diamond-studded earring left behind. All that is left are the skins of the victims discarded like trash in or by the dumpster.

Then, they call me.

It’s been eight years since the first murder, and I, Odessa St. James, have been following the discarded skins across the Southern United States, looking for the killer. When the latest victim from Atlanta, Georgia, can be traced back to a party hosted by Morningstar Industries, I have to go undercover and work for the Devil himself. Literally.

But I’m a big girl, and I can handle it.

As the case progresses, damning evidence is uncovered, and secrets are revealed, and yet it seems like the only one being handled is me… and I like it.

This story is intended for readers 18+

Trigger Warnings:

This story is loosely based on the folktale When the Devil Lived on St. Charles Avenue, culminating in the Devil consuming people and discarding their skins. Though I don’t go into detail, you should skip this story if the description above makes you feel queasy.

Technically in Love

Love and Lust Inc.

Most mortals are unaware of how love works. It’s up to the Cupids of Love and Lust Inc. to inspire love, lust, and true love. With the ever-expanding cosmos it’s on us to deliver.

Which is why I developed Cupi Drones. Why shoot arrows when we can dart and dash! My idea is sound, I just have to prove it to my irritatingly sexy boss, Cupid himself, Eros. When an unforeseen variable causes the drone to go rogue, we find out firsthand how accurate the program is. Now we’re both faced with the question, can an accident be true love?

About Mikayla

Mikayla Rand’s childhood was filled with stories of magic. When she wasn’t jumping purposefully into fairy rings, leaving out tasty treats for unicorns, or trying to find the second star to the right, she was making up fantastic stories for her friends.

Though she resisted growing up for as long as possible she did what southern girls are taught to do and stayed on the path: she finished college, married her sweetheart, worked her full-time job, and had a kid… and quietly went stir crazy.

Now a little older and wiser, like most of her heroines, she sees the merit of straying from the path, and if there is a sexy werewolf in the bushes, well, that’s a legitimate excuse to be late to dinner.
